GUIDE FOR STYLING

your photo session

When clients ask me about the "look" of their session, there are four main factors that will greatly impact the overall look/vibes of the photo session.

These are the main four factors to a successful photo session: Style, Light, Hair/Makeup and Location.

01. STYLE

One of the most stressful aspects of a photo sessions is trying to decide how you will dress. I will help guide you through this when you book a session with me. I will send you a tool to use to plan your session. Or, scroll down on this page to see some style ideas.

02. LIGHT

If you ever wonder why I ask if you would like to reschedule your session when it is a pretty dark, cloudy day, but not necessarily raining - this is why. I have a unique natural light style and I utilize the sun to help your photos "glow" more. Some people ask, "isn't an overcast day best for photos?" and actually my answer is no, not for my style. I love utilizing the sunset to add dimension and more light to your photographs. This is so important to get that lighter, warmer look to your photos.

03. HAIR/MAKEUP

How often do you get professional photos done of you and your loved ones? The answer is probably not often. You want to look and feel your best. I work with some amazing hair & makeup artists and will schedule an appointment for you to get your hair and makeup done on the day of your photo session. Just let me know if you are interested in this, and I will schedule your appointment. It is not required, but it is highly recommended.

04. LOCATION

Choosing a location is so important. I will help you come up with ideas. I prefer places like Libby Hill, Rocketts Landing, VMFA or other great spots around Richmond. I also can recommend more rural spots, too. We will work on finding the right location for whatever kind of setting you want!
